Way Back Home 2011 film Wikipedia

Overall, an interesting story, but the lack of imagery and flair in the actual writing lets it down somewhat. Through the scenes of business dealings, Mhlongo explores the irony of "loyal" comrades who betray the state by circumventing employment equity laws and tender regulations, under the guise of serving "the revolution". The culture of "the movement", which holds loyalty as its prime value, is explored through the impending tender bid organised by Kimathi Tito and his business partners. The webs of patronage are navigated to ensure that each member of the "Mandulo" company's team makes "good currency". The "Mandulo" company whose directors include Tito, his business partners Sechaba , and George (a Greek-American who also happens to be the only qualified engineer in the construction team).

They say the same things over 4 times throughout. Again, it's obvious this book is targeted towards people who are used to social media, and cannot read over ten pages without losing focus. One of the things about this book that I thought was written extremely well was the dementia aspect, and you can tell that the author has personal experience with it. It's the little things, like Granny being asked simple questions and deflecting instead of answering in the hopes that no one will notice she doesn't know what the answer actually is.

He was at a point in his life where he thought , been there, done that - and then the wheels gradually began falling off. The film exhibits an admirable determination to do justice to a real story, but the story's not real. There's quite an op-ed debate going on right now between those who say the cultural elite is finally being shouted down by populists and vulgarians, and others (A.O. Scott) who say such categories are meaningless.

It's very clear that author Allan Stratton doesn't have a single clue how teenage mindset works. I am giving this book 1 star, because I can’t come up with any reasons why I would give it any more stars. I hated this book, it made me angry and pissed and I just wanted to punch these characters in their face. The writing was okay and I kind of liked Zoe’s relation with her grandmother but that was all of the good things I could come up with. I would honestly not recommend this book to anyone, but if after all of my ranting you still decide to pick it up, I wish you good luck.

CAST & CREW

Being able to afford elderly house is great enough. Why do it yourself if you can put granny in somewhere safe and nice? I liked the relationship between Zoe and her Granny; they really cared for each other. I also liked how the story dealt with Alzheimers and how hard it can be for a family. On the pleasant side of things, I really did love how the relationship between Zoe and her Granny was portrayed. The love between the two of them was just amazing.

A well narrated and researched sequence of events. He showcases literary skill , attention to detail and ability to keep the reader captivated throughout. The unapologetic use of vernacular especially in relating about Makhanda is refreshing and gives off an undiluted version. To ask other readers questions aboutWay Back Home, please sign up. Leading Cast

Here no one questions that the main character is seeing ghosts. Several mysterious deaths tie back into the story too late to make us care and the main character is so unlikable that we have no reason to emphasize with him. Worse still, the dialouge is stilted throughout. Ex-Marine Gabe Ryder has lost a lot in his life.

It's her taking her granddaughter out for ice cream and forgetting where they're going, why they're going there, how long they've been there. That's where the real heart of the story lies, and I kind of wish there had been a bit more of that shown as well. Allan Stratton weaves a story like no one else - you laugh at the absurdities, scream at the injustices, and cry at the realities. This book takes the reader through a gambit of themes and emotions. From bullying to aging with dignity, The Way Back Home addresses hard problems with strong characters and realistic situations. I won't forget this book for a long time.

The first 50 pages was comprised almost entirely of dialogue. This isn't a bad thing in of and itself, but the way the characters spoke was very forced, stilted and unnatural. I wish I could provide some examples, but I've already returned my library copy.

I thought she was very bratty throughout the story and it was hard to relate to her. When I finished this I felt like I'd just finished a love story. Very sweet, emotional and quite touching. I would recommend this book to anyone 10+ who likes quick reads with amazing plots.

So it comes as no surprise that there are a handful of Oscar hopefuls coming out this weekend. One of them, Blue Valentine, has already earned some success during Awards Season and it looks like that will translate into at least some success theatrically.More...

I am so looking forward to his latest work, "Under The Apricot Tree", coming out soon. There is a scene of the drive from Parkhurst 4th Avenue to the Emmarentia dam. It seems Niq drove that same route when writing the book to ensure that he got all the street name right.

Awards Season: Oscars Offer a Truly Regal Performance

The Way Back Home is a repetitive, boring, pretentious book about mostly family dysfunction, except that the one causing the dysfunction is the protagonist that we are supposed to relate to. This book will be better through the perspective of the parents of Zoe. They are the actual ones with character development, reasonable decisions, and the ones who think. They sure are lucky to have a happy ending. They wouldn't survive a day in Toronto with that amount of money, let alone seeing uncle Teddy.

The book starts with Zoe telling us about her family and her school life. The only person that she truly ever loved is her grandmother. Zoe's parents have always thought that granny was crazy and had to always be cared of after her husbands death. Zoe's grandmother alway collects different items from the street, and brings them to her home, which is why Zoe's parents are putting her into a home where she will be cared of. Zoe is angry at her parents and fake friends who keep telling her that her only true friend granny is crazy, and can not be left alone. She decides that it is time to break free.

About Allan Stratton

When she decides to run away with her Granny, Zoe learns about responsibility and the difficult parts of life. I picked up The Way Back Home and almost put it right back down, the family relationships were instantly jarring and the sights and smells were seriously off-putting. Am I ever glad I stuck it out to witness the feisty, foul-mouthed and often falsely blamed teen Zoe fight,on behalf of her increasingly confused grandmother, to remain in her beloved ‘Bird’ house.
